Tanzania has a number of great national parks (22) and I decided to visit three in fair reach from Arusha city. Arusha NP for a daytrip, Ngorogora conservancy (Ngorogoro Crater and Ndutu area close to Serengeti border), Serengeti NP and Tarangire NP. This was done over 12 night stay at various locations during February 2023. This particular trip was designed to experience the “calving season” which takes place during January/February when the herds are moving through the southern area of their migration. From October to December the “short rains” take place and during March to May the “long rains”. The period between is called the “green season” and this is when the calving takes place. The Ndutu area is well known for the Wildebeest, Zebra and Thompson’s gazelles moving through with their newlyborn calves. Predators are local but some follow the herds. Grass is mostly short and viewing is good.
