Red Kite feeding stations

Red Kite Feeding Stations in Scotland

I visited a number of them and thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity of taking pictures of these agile birds. Pretty difficult to capture a good shot especially if its windy as they are constantly adjusting their flight. Nevertheless it is usually possible to find one that is inquisitive and might venture closer.

The feeding stations I visited and would likely do so in the future are: Agarty Red Kites near Dunblane; Bellymack Hill Farm near Laurieston and on the Galloway Kite Trail; Tollie Red Kites near Dingwall on the Black Isle. All had charm in their own way. I likely enjoyed the Bellymack Hill farm the most as their were many kites and it was setup so that one could do good photos.

A long lens is difficult to manage even with a gimbal as the kites speed and agility makes them difficult to follow.  A zoom of 100-400mm worked well especially for the inquisitive kites that came closer.

NOTE: The galleries might contain more than 50 images. Loading might be slightly delayed due to good quality images being uploaded. Play slideshow by clicking on an image and then on the arrow in top right hand corner. Wave cursor over image to stop slideshow (image can enlarge to  fullscreen by clicking on box in top corner). For potential purchases its better to contact me via email please. Most functions and viewing is better on larger displays compared to phones.
