KNP 2013 — 14-22 June
I had not been to Kruger for more than 10 years and furthermore I had usually driven by car from Cape Town or wherever I had been working to Kruger. This time I needed to incorporate it with a family visit to Cape Town and I needed to get back to the UK to continue my obligations there. A new and interesting experience flying into Nelspruit, picking up a vehicle (corolla sedan) and then spending the first night in nearby Skukuza.
I spent a total of 8 nights in Kruger (camp sequence: Skukuza 1; Letaba 2; Mopani 1; Satara 2 and Skukuza 2), which I thoroughly enjoyed and I tried to cover as much ground as I could as it had been such a long time since I’d been there. A higher vehicle is pretty important for better game viewing and better clearance for obstacles. Well… just a bit more comfort especially if you have a lot of bits of camera kit and you’re bound to be in the car for many hours.
It’s always difficult for me to highlight a specific event during a wildlife experience because I pretty much enjoy it all!! But, I quite liked seeing the birds of prey feeding off their prey (African fish eagle with a fish and a martial eagle with a reptile of some sorts). Furthermore it was an opportunity for me to think about and see how I would approach future visits.
