Addo (Elephant) National Park — 26,28,29, 30 October 2019
I had not been to Addo for many years, in fact since I was there as a kid (5-10y old) with my grandfather. There were no lions in the park and it seemed rather tame to me at that age having been to Kruger a few times before. This time it was a different story as it had been expanded significantly. On the Saturday a good friend and myself drove north-south entering at the main camp and exiting at the south entrance. Lions were seen at the Domkrag lookout and we nearly saw a stalking but I think the activity of the visitors at the lookout contributed to the lioness breaking off the stalk.
I returned the Monday for two nights sleeping at the main camp and also at the Matyholweni Rest Camp at the southern exit. I found the Matyholweni rest camp very peaceful in the morning after awakening about 6am I sat on the balcony taking several pictures of birds and just enjoying the atmosphere.
It was a memorable few days and I might return to discover the northern section of Addo which is only accessible via 4×4 as I understand. There are apparently a number of lions in the northern area.
